Wildlife

Blackbutt Reserve occupies approximately 182 hectares of land in the middle of Newcastle. In many parts of the reserve it is possible to stand in complete silence, unaware of the busy metropolis nearby. Blackbutt Reserve still contains the remnants of a rainforest pocket in the sheltered valley beneath the lookout ecarpment. In the viewing area visitors can see eye to eye with the koalas, kangaroos, wallabies and birds.
Make sure to combine your visit with an "Encounter", where koalas and wombats are fed, and for just $3 you can have a picture taken with these cuddly creatures. Happens daily at 2pm.
